Jill Scott is an African American singer-songwriter, model, poet and actress. Her 2000 debut, Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1, went platinum, and the follow-ups Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2 and The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3 both achieved gold status. She made her cinematic debut in the films Hounddog, Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? and First Wives Club.
Two decades ago Jill Scott was one of the prominent voices of the Neo-Soul movement. Her debut album, Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1, is viewed as one of the finest bodies of work to emerge during that era.

Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1 was released on July 18, 2000, via Hidden Beach. The 18-track LP includes the singles “Gettin’ In the Way,” “A Long Walk,” and “The Way.” Scott’s musical masterpiece was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards.
